Hey everybody Our site is looking for a new hosts. Our main concern is uptime and stability. We have been around soon 12 yrs and expect our host to be a old cat in the game as well. We normally have 20-30 users online in peak hours. And have always been running on shared hosts without any ressource problems. There is two options. 1: Shared cloud hosting for 1 domain. 2: Shared cloud reseller hosting for 10 domains. requirements. Eu location 10gb space 30gb transfer min 5 unl mysql databases. Our phpBB3 database is 1gb atm. Will grow. Valid software. No php 5.2.X its not supported anymore. Regular updates. Our current host updates to php latest within a month of release. Something like that. Proven uptime stats. English support. Hardware redundency with automatic fallover.(Thats why im posting in cloud) Cpanel or direct admin. Help with moving the site. 1gb db cant always be uploaded by user. Backup of files daily. Price range 10-30 euro a month. month to month signup to start with. yearly or bi-annually if its working as we wish. And NOT im not interested in a vps unless it can be setup and ready for us within that price range. Thanks for reading, i look forward to some good suggestions. Can I ask why you are moving from your current host in the first place? And secondly, I bolded a line in the quote. There are a lot of "cloud" providers out there that actually isn't more than a glorified VPS, so do your research into each provider recommended to make sure they have your redundancy requirement.

our current host is a one man company with one server. That server burned out is motherboard a few days ago. He took it into service on warrenty and it will be another week before its fixed. So add to the list, no one man companies. I know about the cloud hosts that arnt really clouds. Thats why im looking for real cloud provider. Thanks for your reply.

Cloud is certainly the best way to go if uptime is your main concern, although as others have pointed out you need to be careful. In general a decent cloud provider is likely to cost an equivalent amount to a dedicated server whilst a VPS provider will be many times cheaper. You get what you pay for. Hosting providers are not allowed to direct you to their products in this forum so I suggest looking through the offers section.

Really. Seems like ill have to skip cloud for the moment then. Too bad its so pricy.

I think for about 30Euro you can find a decent cloud server. Just take a look in advertising section. Make sure that they have High Availability and Failover. Good luck!

Actually there is just a few in europe. Too pricy. 60-70 euro for 10gb space. is a bit much. Im considering a vps with cloudsigma and a lamp setup and just skip the DA or cpanel, dont really need it, just for webmail and email accounts.

You need to realize that operating a SAN + hypervisors that replicate each other in two different datacenters/locations is extremely expensive. That's why the prices are so high.

Thats realized, Took a bit of surfing. Did not find anybody that advertised with duplication of vms in dif datacenters though. Also found out what we need. Vmware solution that is not based on xen, openvps or alike, i need to upload my own os, connect with vnc and do what i want. Tried services like cloudee, yisp, but they are xen based and can break if u run apt-get update, apt-get dist-upgrade, reboot. Atm iwe found two services that offer this in europe. Cloudsigma and gridlane. Cloudsigma would work, gridlane is in beta. I would just like to have more options.

This should work just fine if you leave grub intact.

Its that word. "Should" that worries me, You can test this out in 5 mins and say it WILL work. Cloudee has a xen based cloud as well, didnt work on their system. They claimed it would work fine too, it didnt. Complete os control seems to be the best choice, to be independent from your cloud software and future updates.

This is why I prefer KVM & VmWare based cloud instead of XEN. They won't brake with update command. Also, everything is fully virtualized or paravirtualized.

Seems so. Too bad there is so little of them around and nobody is allowed to recommend a host on this forum. Only found 1 in eu so far thats stable. Gotta be more out there.

Not exactly. They can't recommend themselves or someone they're in business or partnered with. They can recommend someone they've used as long as they're not connected to them other than as a paying customer.

apt-get seems to default to non-XEN kernels, thus breaking if inside a VM using XEN.. You would need to restore grub.conf right before reboot or at least ensure that the kernel fits the platform as the old kernel did.

That must mean that there are NO non-xen, run your own os clouds around, since nobody in the post have suggested i check any out. Or that only hosters look in here not their clients. Im just getting tired of nubs hosters that think php 5.2.15 is latest and supported. Gotta go my own way with a vps and own os from debain.org not a cloud manufacture edition of debian thats been altered by somebody else than debian. Come on guys, there gotta be more clouds out there that allow you to run your own os and isnt based on xen.
