Don't bother with MyOwnFreeHost.net - waste of time.

I can't believe I pissed away $9 on this crap. MyOwnFreeHost.net is a reseller host. It stands out because it's only $9 a year. They're a division of Byet Hosting, which looks legit enough. First off, they claim to offer cPanel for users: Should have payed more attention to those quotes, what you actually get is an inhouse control panel they call "VistaPanel". Contrary to their "white label" touts, it has a Byet Hosting banner ad at the top, and the entire thing is just poorly designed. The reseller panel (WHM equivalent) is no better. As a reseller, you get no control over the user panel's appearance. Whatever. Maybe some people like crappy panels. Another large problem is registration. Users don't sign up through your site - they sign up though an uncustomizable, ugly form they provide - on the domain "securesignup.net". Upon signing up through "your" signup form, the user receives an email ridden with grammatical errors with a link to their "Vista panel", FTP, and such. I could go on, but I think I've convinced you enough. This was a disappointment. I suppose you really do get what you pay for. I'm glad I didn't register my domain with them. They charge $25 to transfer it out....

Sorry to hear about your poor experience with them. Indeed, pricing isn't everything and $9 a year is just way cheap.

Wow, $9 a year, what did you expected. But, false promises and crappy panel, can't believe it yet. I guess they don't know cPanel has resellers center and they can easily do an integration with most billing softwares :p Try InnoHosting, not that cheap, but at least good.

Sorry to hear about your very poor experience with myownfreehost.net. For future reference, I'd be very weary of reseller providers offering services for as low as $0.75/month

As I can see on their site, they quote that word 'cpanel' - see the 'p' is typed in lowercase (not typed in cPanel that refers to real http://www.cpanel.com/). So I think that word 'cpanel' is only abbreviation of control panel (VistaPanel). I can't imagine with $9 / year, resellers would get the real cPanel/WHM Also didn't you see their Control Panel screen shot and its details before you signed up with them?

This is what I was thinking.... I used the free version of myownfreehost.net and it gives you details on all this stuff that hes complaining about and some of the stuff that is not listed can be easily found in the forum. Regarding the grammar errors in the email... you setup the email your self when you make an account and you also setup and change the default advertisements which it seems you have not done. (edit) I forgot to mention you can use your own website design if you don't like the stock designs and you can edit the sign up form.

As the domain MyOwnFreeHost.net suggests, you are supposed to provide free host or very cheap host with basic functionality. Cheap is something like $2/year comparing with the reseller account $9/year.

You're right, I should have read all that. It was an impulse buy and I'm rather unintelligent. I nabbed a free trial at Site5 and I'm liking this a lot better. Live and learn

Yeah myownfreehost is more for getting alot of customers for advertising etc. I had around 2 thousand sites hosted on mine and people would pay 50 dollars a month for a simple text link.... ALmost no one signs up for the paid plans so I stuck to normal paid hosting.

Well you paid peanuts and got monkeys. The $2.99/$8.99 plans are bait to get you in. Their bigger plans are by comparison, quite overpriced. Especially if you have such little control over you panel as you say. A good lesson learned for a small price, but it sounds like a lot of lost unpaid time getting the experience. Better luck next time --Michael

Well, I've learned a LOT about reseller hosting over the last day. I originally thought WHMCS was part of WHM
