Need a Recommendation / Suggestion of Reseller

Posted by fero4u123, 03-15-2010, 05:05 PM
Okay I am a webdesigner/developer. I have been looking into Reselling and maybe one day actually having my own server. I figure reselling would be a good start but I don't know a good company to pick / use. As far as my client base, currently I do not have anyone looking for a host (as I previously signed them up with web hosting providers based on what they needed). What I am looking for is a reseller that will be able to accommodate the needs of people I have recently worked with and the type of work I do. I am not really trying to get too pricey as, I am a beginner at this and don't know exactly where this will go. The type of work I usually do (related to web hosting anyway) is drupal magneto and other cms setups, ssl certificates for some of my clients who I have made e-commerce sites for latest mysql and php support. A billing system would be nice and an ability to track and control people that have hosting through me. Now can any of you guys recommend me some suggestions on a reseller I should go with. ***please let me know any additional information you need to know from me in order to better assistance me (such as my specific skills or programming / software I use or anything else). As I stated earlier I never really paid attention to server details (except looking specifically what a client needs for a specific task and selecting a host based upon that) and I am unfamiliar with the whole process. I am very willing to learn !.*** Any Help Is Greatly Appreciated :-) Last edited by fero4u123; 03-15-2010 at 05:11 PM.

What sort of budget do you have? Any specific requirements? This information will help us to point you in the right direction.

budget: no more than $20.00 or if there is a deal for 6months to a year I am willing to pay some money up front for a deal. requirements: I am not use to what reselling usually need to do their reselling. As far as software / what the server is able to do I need. Secure Shell (not now but maybe a client will want it) Latest PHP Support Latest Mysql imap, pop, smtp email support CGI,FASTCGI,PERL Python,SSI,Curl,GD There are probably more features that i never paid attention to like standard features that all web host usually provide that will be needed too.

A lot of companies seem to fit your needs. All about your preference.

mind listing a few ? And I guess also what would be a big feature to me is being able to easily manage clients (billing, domains, service etc). I have been doing some research myself and so far the company that is in the lead is eleven2. My thing is now I do see a lot of resell host providing what I need but, I just wanted to check to see if there was anything cheaper than the $20.00. From what I have seen and my little knowledge and not knowing what to look for. Other companies charge around the same price but usually more for less disk space and bandwidth.

Hello fero4u123, welcome to WHT! Most of the hosts will have what you require. To manage your clients (billing, domains, services, etc.) you should look into WHMCS & ClientExec. These 2 softwares will do exactly what you require. Some hosts may also include this with their reseller hosting packages. <> Last edited by bear; 03-15-2010 at 08:30 PM.

Yeah, Reseller is a good start for running a web hosting business fero. Once your business grows, you can always move on to VPS/Dedicated servers. Anyway, with your budget and requirement above, I'm sure they are many host providers can provide your needs. I'll suggest you to check out WHT's offers section for other web hosting providers, they got some really good deals going on there. Last edited by agustan; 03-15-2010 at 09:38 PM.

20 is the cheapest you can get for a reliable reseller account with reasonable disk space & bandwidth and free addon like billing script. If you look for cheaper, i would say you are heading in wrong direction.

You could try Innohosting.com

Thanks for all the replies and help !!! Okay, I am thoroughly going to look over the offer sections but once again I have seen that eleven2 (kinda like innohost too for starting out and 3/4 bucks cheaper) is offering the best deal for me anyway. 20 bucks a month with 100gb storage and 1000gb bandwidth. Now I guess my last question for you guys, since I dont know any of these companies, is eleven2 an alright company ? Don't wont to be dealing with some people that's hard to get along with, I'd rather pay a higher price or have not as much space/storage than deal with that. Once Again Thanks you guys for the replies. (not as important question but was just curious, what does overselling enabled mean ?)

Wow, I was checking the offer sections and thanks for pointing me there, because there really are some great offers ! (Sorry for all the post but for some reason, it will not let me edit my post) Last edited by fero4u123; 03-16-2010 at 11:11 AM.

Overselling enabled means, for example, that you can allocate to your customers a total of 100GB of space, even though your reseller account only comes with 50GB of space. As long as they use under 50GB in total, you're fine. Litespeed is a web server that is said to be more efficient and faster than the typically used Apache web server. Litespeed is paid software, Apache is free.

Thanks ldcdc. Overselling is interesting. So Basically it gives you the ability to do false advertising lol. And thanks for the info on litespeed too. I think that is something cool to happen but, as I'm just starting off it won't sway who I decide to go with.

Not really false advertising - it simply allows you to maximize profit by taking into account that most users will not use all of their allocated disk space (similar to how airlines oversell most of their flights because they know that some of their passengers will miss or change the flight)

I think $20 dollar for a reseller hosting is not that low but considering the fact that you want a billing software i guess you have to up your budget a little bit. I'll personal;y suggest Hostgator cos they offer billing and you can also resell domains.
