Need Reseller Recommendation

Posted by Ryan - RCB IT, 03-12-2010, 07:38 PM
We are a small IT Consulting Company currently using a VPS server to host our websites and those of our clients. We are looking to save money by downgrading to reseller hosting. The primary requirements for the host are must be cpanel/WHM, host must allow us to override specific php.ini setting for a specific domain using .htaccess (primarily on one of our domains we need to set the max execution time to 600 to allow special scripts to run occasionally), host must be able to transfer all the accounts (3 total) from our VPS which has cpanel and WHM to their server, we will provide root access credentials. The host should have good solid customer service and support. We are hosting a total of 3 sites for the time being the most intensive of which is our own site which runs a variety of open source php scripts. Also there must be room to upgrade as we grow and purchasing upgrades should be simple. Finally we are looking to keep the cost to $20 or less as our current VPS prices $25.

i have a smilar question thought i should add when it comes to this is tere neone tha can tell me how to attach a product to a website like how to have someone pay for an ebook and then as soon as they pay i can use an autoresponse email to send the ebook

I think you'll be better off staying with a VPS because no shared host would change their max execution time to anything other than the default. Anyone willing to do so is either very new or very desperate to get a new sale. Other than that, you shouldn't have any trouble finding something that may fit. The max execution time is the biggest issue imo.

Any specific location for the host providers/datacenter you're looking for? Anyway, I would recommend reseller accounts from HostGator, InnoHosting, SurPassHosting. I've seen many positive reviews about them here on WHT.

I have to agree with njoker555. Stay with your VPS. It's going to be difficult to find a reseller host that will allow you to modify execution variables, even if it is through a .htaccess file

I disagree. Having max_execution_time set to 600 isn't too high, well not for hosts that don't go mad with the Overselling side of things anyway. I use the the following PHP Configuration that is recommend for Video Sharing Scripts. •safe_mode = off •max_execution_time = 5000 •max_input_time = 5000 •open_basedir = (no value) •upload_max_filesize = 1000M •post_max_size = 1000M •register_argc_argv = On The OP just needs an FFmpeg Reseller account as they tend to allow much higher PHP limits. Just stay away from the ones that Oversell really bad by giving away ridiculous amounts of diskspace and bandwidth for very cheap costs and you'll be ok. You will get what you pay for this way, and will have a much better chance of being able to use all of your quota.

I would stay with VPS, as the limit tends to be higher. It would give me more flexibility in the long run and not to worry when there are further spikes of traffic.

Agreed. No one would mess with global configs for few extra bucks.

Ryan, is the primary reason for the switch to save on prices?

ezpzhosting.co.uk is indeed a good one to host your clients in a reseller. I have a reseller account with them and they could even transfer all your sites from your vps to their reseller for free.
