Looking for a recommendation

Posted by nshahzad, 03-13-2010, 02:17 PM
Hi all, I've been reading a few forums here, but I guess I need to post my requirements to make this a bit easier. Basically, I need clients to have: SSH access - mainly for MySQL and Git (next point) Git needs to be installed PHP 5.2+, with cURL, and having APC would be nice. Basically I've written some software, but I'd like to offer hosting with it. But the optimum hosting would have the above. I think the closest that comes is Site5, but I'm not sure about the quality of their reseller accounts due to overselling, etc, though I'd like to have the overselling option. I've contacted fasthost.com, have not heard back from them yet. Innohosting would have been great, but they don't have shell/git access. Currently, my main site is on a VPS. It'll stay there. But I wouldn't be opposed to buying another VPS and setting up some sort of reselling on it - but I believe the setup of cPanel, etc, would be cost prohibitive, along with all the time I'd need to set it up - unless there was a "ready-made" install with the entire LAMP stack with the WHM/cPanel already installed. Thanks! Last edited by nshahzad; 03-13-2010 at 02:21 PM.

Not to my knowledge. I have not come across any reseller service offering all of this combinations. It seems that you require VPS. Go for managed vps if you lack the time.

Yeah, thanks. It seems Eleven2 also meets my requirements. I may end up going with them, they were really helpful with their live chat and all.

What about HostGator or SurpassHosting ? I'm not sure if they support Git or not. All the best on your searching and good luck

Hostgator has SSH, but actually charges monthly per client for SSH. A bit pricey. But, right now it's between eleven2 and greengeeks. Any preferences? Both seem to have good recommendations, though eleven2 has alot of complaints about customer support. But I'm not sure how founded they are

If you require all of those insalled software options a VPS or dedicated server is for you. You'll have more control over what software is installed and you can oversell too.

yeah .... i sure you need a dedicated server, so you can created a vps on it and do what you wanna do, like 10 vps, and also installed a unlimited script so you can sell unlimited also.

I recommend Hostdime or Surpasshosting. Contact them for your requirements.

How? Is it just a matter of installing cPanel? I'm not sure how to really set that up. I have two VPS's now, but I do everything by hand.

Of course you can do everything by the hand. But that is impossible as you have 100 signups everyday If I had reseller account or VPS for web hosting business I would use automated processes.

Yep, but that was my question - how do you setup the automated process? Is it just installing WHM and it installs Apache, etc, for you?

Nevermind, I see how it goes. Well, VPS is a possibility. But is it feasible to run let's say 10-15 clients on a 512mb VPS? Especially running Apache?

nshahzad, What is your approx. budget? You can find a $50/month vps with 768MB ram from reputable hosts best of all with the vps you get root ssh access.

I'm looking at PhotonVPS at the moment, their Xen packages. They have good deals with cPanel/WHM. All my other VPS are with Linode atm. I'm going to pull the trigger on Photon for now, 512 with 1gb swap. I can always scale up, but starting a bit smaller for now. My budget is about $30/month to start. Cheers
