Reseller site on a different server

Posted by providespace, 03-11-2010, 11:58 AM
Hi, I have a shared hosting account. I am looking at going into reseller hosting. Can I have my reseller site on my shared server, and still put my customers on the reseller server automatically? I don't know if I am making a whole lot of sense, so if you have any questions I'll try to answer them. Thanks. [Edit1] I guess this is most likely impossible because the name servers would be on the shared account. (unless you can point sub domains anywhere just like domains) [Edid2] http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=359352 <-- This guy has almost the same question as I do. Maybe it could work. Do you have any thoughts? Last edited by providespace; 03-11-2010 at 12:09 PM.

What do you mean when you asked if you can have your reseller site on your shared server? If it's just the site then yeah you can. ANd if the reseller account is hosted elsewhere, that's also possible. If you have a good billing software like whmcs or clientexec, you wouldn't need to keep the two on the same server or same host for any reason. Other than that, you'd have to clarify a bit more.

Great, that's what I need to know. Here's the deal: I have [reseller.com], which will be hosted as an add on domain on my shared server with Arvixe LLC. I'm going to have a reseller package with probably MellowHost.com. I want the customer to be able to sign up on [reseller.com] and get an account on the reseller server. Now I guess I just have to integrate the nameservers to work with the reseller account IP.

Yeah, that's very possible. Just make sure you set up the correct a-records for the nameservers and it'll work fine. Good luck.

Good. Thanks.

Yes this is possible. It is all configured in your billing software (clientexec, whmcs etc) The billnig software can run anywhere.

You can definitely do that. I suggest using WHMCS, it's simple to do this with it.

This is very easy to do - simply create the accounts using WHM on the reseller account on the reseller server and have your main website hosted on whichever server you'd like

You can create sub domains(like mysecondreseller.mydomain.com) and can host them on reseller accounts that placed on different servers. You will need to add some DNS settings on your server that your main domain hosted on. Also you can define multiple server information on most billing softwares.
