256mb is a real ram or virtual? If it is real, that is too much already and you have the worst optimization in the server.

256mb RAM should be more than enough for the vast majority of WP sites. You could try P3 (Plugin Performance Profiler) plugin, which creates pie chart of CPU usage per plugin, but remember to disable it after you scan a site with it. WP Super Cache usually improves performance significantly, but you have to exclude e-commerce pages from caching. W3 Total Cache has more features, but configuring it is time consuming.

The user should avoid installing non essential plugins, as many of them take up a lot of resources.

do you mean install http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/p3-profiler within the wordpress ? thanx

You're welcome. If you *do* find one or 2 plugins with high cpu usage, you might be able to replace it with something else or change the plugin configuration.

Tip to get faster wordpress Use Nginx +php-fpm with FastCGI caching and memcached as the cache backend . All the best

Disable HostnameLookups off in httpd. Use mod_disk_cache NOT mod_mem_cache Remove unused modules Utilize mod_gzip/mod_deflate Do Not set KeepAliveTimeout too high Turn off safe_mode for php Increase ServerLimit to set MaxClients above 256. Greetings !
