Please help me become a reseller

Posted by threehosts, 07-31-2008, 01:08 PM
Hi, I want to be a reseller. But I am not sure if I can handle it? At present I'm running a small simple website with bluehost company. But I can't work with mysql, php or any other specific program. I just design my web pages with frontpage and insert some html/java codes if it is necessary, finally I upload them via my file manager. (It should be mentioned my website seems very good looking.) Can I handle running a reseller web hosting service? If I purchase a domain name and a reseller web hosting account, does the parent company set up my needed website at my registered domain? How much will I be involved in the managing? For example, is it possible just advetise my website, people go to my site and if they like my features register? And I'm not involved in the process. Is there any reseller company which is easy to use and set ups my needed website at my registered domain automaticly, and I just try to get traffic to my wbsite, and view the result via my Cpanel? Something like some affiliated website which offer a pre-designed page for each member and each visitor via their pages are considered as their referrals. If so, can I edit my pages easily to set my features and costs, and probably insert my google adsense codes? Thanks Last edited by threehosts; 07-31-2008 at 01:13 PM.

Sounds to me like you need a commission based reseller account. Have a look at resellerspanel.com. A word of advice however, don't venture into a business you in which you are not confident about nor have the necessary skills. Instead spend time to properly look into the industry and learn the ropes properly. Then decide if this is something you want to do.

I agree with Rameen. Even if the host provides end user support, you're still going to have to handle billing and the setup of your business.

Or you can purchase a reseller account from godaddy and earn commission payments. They will handle all the support for your customers.

You don't need php/mysql knowledge as you can use billing script like clientexec/whmcs to manage customers and orders. However, you do need knowledge of hosting and a bit of php/mysql to provide customer support. Godaddy reseller seems to be the most suitable option for you (Goddady do not use cpanel though)

Now that I think about it, using programs like Godaddy's and Resellerspanel will make it very hard to market your service while being entirely honest as to what your company does exactly.

The best way to learn is get a small reseller account, And learn all you can, You can find hundreds of tutorials on the net if you get stuck. Hands on is the best way to learn. I started with reseller accounts and now running a successful hosting company. If you dont succeed try and try again Last edited by coldgansta; 08-06-2008 at 06:00 PM.
