got hacked... can I do anything with the email?

I got hacked (probably through a wordpress script that hasn't been updated in about a year) and they uploaded an AmEx phishing site I looked through the PHP files and found the email it's sending the data too... can I do anything with this? I mean I could report it, but I'm guessing they registered it through a proxy? it's an @mail.com address

You can report the e-mail and information to the e-mail provider and they can then look into the details and forward the information to local authorities.

They are not going to do anything, maybe BBB can help.

yeah I emailed mail.com - doubt they will do anything the script logged any results to a file called 1.txt, and there was nothing there, so at least it hasn't caught anyone out I noticed it thanks to Google

The BBB is actually one of the most overrated and useless companies out there. People are under the impression that they are a government body with some sort of administrative powers. This is actually not true. They also do not work with phishing sites/takedowns. The correct course of action here is to contact the Abuse Department of the E-Mail Provider. You may also respond to the "abuse notification" email if sent one by American Express with the email address. Ultimately it is their choice to take action or not.

Yes i know they are not a government body. What they do is alert businesses and consumers about phishing/fraud. They also have an internal database where everything is put on a record.
