Devioushosting ... Is there a catch?

Posted by bluefireweb, 04-21-2007, 01:03 AM
devioushosting.*om Is there a catch? I am trying to find a reseller.. and this one seems nice. I asked about IPs and they do allow me to add multiple ips for $2 per ip over. It seems to me like they are resellers themselves though....... ?? How do i find out if they are resellers, and if so of who? Also, Is there anything I should ask to make sure this is as good a deal as it appears to be??

Posted by PrimaryVPS, 04-21-2007, 01:32 AM
You can contact them if they are resellers or not, you can always try looking up their nameservers, ip range, hostname, etc

Posted by premium20, 04-21-2007, 01:40 AM
Even if they are resellers, how does it matter? There are so many hostsout there in the market who started with reseller plans.

Posted by bluefireweb, 04-21-2007, 01:44 AM
Well... why would i resell for a reseller? Makes no sense... It would seem obvious that reselling for the person they are reselling for would be more profitable...... But eitherway.. I checked they have a dedicated server at softlayer. So seems like a nice host to me... ive only seen one single post about them and it was a dispute with the owner and the person who designed his website..... seems from reading the post the owner resolved the issue so thats pretty good i guess. Other than that created: Creation date: 01 Jan 2006 19:30:59 Thats not bad either. Shows a little stability i guess. Any other opionons on t his host? Preferrably anyone who has hosted with them before?

I have a question you should ask them. STRICTLY NO OVERSELLING We host maximum of 5 Reseller accounts on each server, we do not oversell our servers to provide maximum performance So if their highest cost reseller plan is Reseller #3 plan at $25.99 a month, $25.99 x5 = $129.95 and the cheapest server Softlayer has is $159.95 a month plus $20.00 for Cpanel = $179.95 a month that means a $50.00 per month loss. How are they making money?

Why would anyone brand their business as "devioushosting"? Doesn't build trust.

They sound devious Maybe they host their site at SoftLayer then host resellers on much cheaper machines who knows but that may explain their whole STRICTLY NO OVERSELLING statement which doesn't make a whole lot of sense on SoftLayer machines.

i have seen very humorous threads on devioushosting in this short time i have spend on WHT

Posted by 4trianglesystems, 04-21-2007, 01:24 PM
Let me expose Devious Hosting. 1) They charged me $37.00 USD for a small hosting package + Setup Fees. 2) I told them several times my forum was very big, they told me no worries we can handle it. 3) Suspended after 6 days, asked to move to another provider ( NO REFUND WAS GIVING TO ME) 4) They charged me $36.00 to obtain my own back ups of my own MYSQL Databases. total spent $73.00 USD. I tried to do a chargeback, they won the case. They are quite DEVIOUS! Loyal users of WHT beware, highly not recommended! If anyone is optimistic, I have chat logs from MSN with their sales@devioushosting.com staff member and also their support tickets logs. I can prove every word I have stated above, but there is no justice for me but hopefully I can warn anyone else here that they should watch out for Devious Hosting, they are out to get into your wallet and dig deep! A Quote from Devious Hosting's Support System | Making me Pay for Back Ups that I can do myself. I was suspended and was refusing to unsuspend me to gain my own back ups. How sad is that. Uh... What? What FTP? The FTP you have with them? They'd have to unsuspend for you to get access to that. Some FTP you control? Security risk if you ask me. Doesn't make sense from that quote.

Have you tried a paypal chargeback?

Seeing 2 more threads on them @ Devious Hosting, i would not recommend you to use them

My long and painful fight with DeviousHosting.com Sorry you found out the hardway like me. EDIT: You can read my posts and get half of the story, read DeviousHosting.com's posts to get the other half and you'll see why to avoid them. They even admit to lying and scamming me but refused to give me my money back. Bank of America got it back for me though so not a big deal, but others will fall victim to them I'm sure. My account got suspended. It was a hosting account. So unless they suspend I have no access to anything. So I asked can I have access to get my back ups they said no. They provided me my back ups after I made additional payment and they uploaded it to one of their ftp accounts.

I have tried the chargeback, but they won the case by showing paypal that they do not issue refunds after 48 days. Paypal is a drag, I lost the case.

Lets all soak in misery and hopefully someone with more power can put an end to DeviousHosting. I had to learn it the hard way and hopefully no one else has to go threw it. They add you on msn, convince you so much that their host is one in a million, once you pay, your money is gone, their friendly service is gone and you will be lucky if you get any support at all if you run into any problems. Beware of DEVIOUS Hosting. | The name says it all does it no

Ive done quite a bit of research. Ive found 2 negative posts about them. one being yours, other being about whoever originally designed their site. Ive also learned that they are not directly hosted with SoftLayer, they are using a virtual server from someone who has a dedicated server with SoftLayer... Something like FutureHosting. So I am strongly considering using FutureHosting now, since SoftLayer directed me to them as being one of their "more reputable" resellers. I just can not find all of the details I am looking for on their website.... Devious hosting still after all the things ive found out about them... they still seem like a decent host as long as you dont prepay and as long as your happy with 12x7 support. Im not to worried about the false ad's ive seen because they are not the only host that over promises. As long as I know what im getting into before I get into it.... People will post negative... but im sure there are positive that people never bothered to post simply because they were happy and had no major motivation for posting...... I guess I was hoping to see some positive posts from people who had used DeviousHosting... So currently im leaning towards FutureHosting... if I can just figure out what all their package includes (software mainly). Guess ill email them to.

I'm sure there are people out there with positive reviews of DeviousHosting, whether or not I will ever believe a word they say is another thing though. Considering the way DeviousHosting treated me and others, I would much rather see their servers shut down than them issue an apology and/or change the way they do business. Sure, now they have 24x7 support and whatever they didn't have at the time they promised me they did, but it was all purchased with stolen money. They stole my money, my website, and my domain... I paid for 1 years worth of webhosting with them and they delivered around 1 days worth of uptime and 2 days worth of excuses. They only later said they would return my domain after having posted here publicly and even then it took 5+ pages of other people's posts to obtain that from them. People can continue to trust them if they wish, but I will continue informing other WHT members about their unethical business practices and ill gotten gains.

You appear to be a host? I imagine you should have realized a host can never host a very large forum without issues. How big are we talking or better yet a url I'm really curious. I hope you understand how I'm skeptical somewhat most who offer hosting don't tend to host elsewhere so I'm just wondering why host elsewhere.

RabidDogBoy: I'm sure we can all understand your anger and wishing to warn everyone against DeviousHosting but, in all honesty all you're going to end up doing is looking bitter and twisted and giving DeviousHosting more publicity as, any publicity is good publicity, even bad publicity!

Posted by ZKuJoe, 04-22-2007, 06:55 AM
You're right, I wish I could just put this behind me but it angers me to no end when I see other people falling victim to them.

Posted by 4trianglesystems, 04-22-2007, 10:37 AM
My forum only had 3,400 Registered users and tops 50 people online. I told them all that, they put me on a high end spec server will that is what they claimed. They even charged me a setup fee for clicking a few buttons which I find ridiculous. Setup fees for a Dedicated Server may apply cause it may need special specifications installed or altered. I just started to host and I am learning more as I go. But the bottom line is, Devious Hosting is a cheat, they do not stand by a single word they say. Pure contradicting hosting company that really needs to be looked into.

I am kind of surprised WHT allows them to post in the offers section.

Posted by ZKuJoe, 05-25-2007, 03:56 PM
I contacted WHT about them and their response was pretty much "Use at your own risk" as they don't want to censor theives and scammers as long as they follow the rules.

Posted by HostSentry, 05-25-2007, 04:00 PM
Right, but even in the rules there is " Any attempts to defraud or deceive our members may result in your account being suspended". It is just a shame that so many people are being tricked while there are so many other legitimate hosting companies out there.
