[Review] DDIhosting

Posted by Mark L, 09-29-2004, 04:53 PM
I am going to share my experience with DDIhosting. At first, about the first week or two, everything was great. Speed, support, etc. Then about the third week, I needed some server changes to install clientexec. They put the ticket on "level3" status, so I was thinking I would get a quick response. I was dead wrong. It was 6+ DAYS before I got ANY reply. I even PM'd the admin on the forums about it, with no reply. I had even opened 3 OTHER tickets regarding the response time on the ticket, they where all on "urgent" status, and to the management, but nothing was done. Finally, they did it. Support was a 10/10, then it crashed to 4/10. Server security. This is a major problem with them. I got hacked once, this is what happened (taken from my other thread): I contacted them OVER and OVER about how to fix this, they did nothing. And then I replaced the forums, moving to phpbb. I switched ALL my passwords to unguessable ones, completely random, I did not have them saved in my browser, or any cookies. I have no spyware or viruses. This morning, he had hacked my forums, again. At the bottom is the image he replaced. So, Security is a flat 0/10, because there is next to zero of it. Overall, DDI Hosting has been my worst experience of hosting, ever. If anyone has any needs for security, do not go to DDIhosting. Overall - 3/10 Security 0/10 Support 4/10 Speed (of the server) 10/10 Downtime (Because of the hacker, there was 2 days the server was messed up, and no one could reach it) 7/10 So all in all, I have stopped hosting with DDI, and never will return. What software and version are you using? You can't rate them 0 for security if your using an outdated version of software. However a good host will tell you how they got in and give suggestions.

Fedora Core 1 Ok then, 1/10

Interesting I didn't know fedora had expanded into the forum market.

My bad, thought you meant OS. It was at first IPB 1.3 final Then phpbb 2.0.9. Sarcasim is not needed at all.

Well see that's your problem, not sure about the IPB however the phpbb you’re running is exploitable. Not sure why your blaming your hosting provider. Unless they run the server in safe mode theirs little they can do if their clients don't keep up with security releases for software.

To my understanding, there was no exploit fix from 2.0.9 > 2.0.10, as it is not listed as a fix on their site.

Send an abuse report to fdcservers.net with the proof that you might have. See what they responds to it.

I have done that, no reply. And besides, he is probibly hacking from his home computer with a proxy, FDCservers.net has nothing to do with that problem.
