hello fellow geeks, so i have a client who would like to use a ssl certificate on their website shopping cart, they went ahead and bought one (Quick SSL). So the client emailed me and asked me that the company issueing it requires a csr.. What are the simplest steps in setting up this for the client? I know they need their own ip address which i assigned to them, but no sooner had i done it than i got a: Great Success ! Apache is working on your cPanel® and WHM™ Server... What more am i supposed to do in WHM?Also i added an additional nameserver in opensrs.net and assigned it to that IP address i gave the client.. any help will be appreciated...

Regarding the Dedicated IP, once you change the IP of the account from WHM, it will show you the "Default cPanel page" for a few hours till the new IP is propagated worldwide. It is normal. You should also make sure to change the A, Ftp records if the name servers assigned to the domain are not hosted on your server. After a few hours, the website will start working normally on the new IP address. Regarding the SSL certificate, Yes, you will have to generate a CSR key from WHM >> SSL/TLS >> "Generate a SSL Certificate and Signing Request". Enter all the required information and click 'Create'. It will generate a CSR key as well as a Private key. Forward the CSR key to the client which is required for the SSL companies to issue a SSL certificate. Once you receive the SSL certificate from your client, install it on the domain from WHM >> SSL/TLS >> "Install a SSL Certificate and Setup the Domain". Just place the SSL certificate in the top section and every other information will be fetched automatically. Click Submit and that's it. https://yourdomain.tld should start working immediately.

Thank you for this lesson.. so from your explanation it is not necessary to add another nameserver with that IP address in the domain registry? - Thanks, thats what i did.. however, i had read about making sure that when you are generating the SSL and Signing Request to not forget to add the www (or is this more at the point when the client is buying the certificate?)..either way i used www[/QUOTE] Thanks, i did do it and all seems okay..THANK YOU and I hope this helps someone else.

No, there is no need to add another name server in such a case. Whether to add www OR not solely depends on your client. If he want the SSL certificate to be issued for www.domainname, you will have to use www.domainname while generating the CSR and likewise for without www.
