Urgent Help...I have a HUGE Problem!

Posted by genesis, 08-03-2003, 06:34 PM
Hi Guys, I have a huge problem and wonder if there is a way out for me? I am presently a reseller with about a dozen accounts, but I am having a lot of down-time problems with my present host. I want to move on, but there is a problem. One of my clients has a very big website (presently 1800+mb) which is an online book library. How in the world can I ask them to upload to a new server? It taken over a year to get where he has. And to upload with a 56k connection is almost impossible, as it would take forever. Any ideas or suggestions. Many thanks for your support in this important matter Kind regards Genesis

For a site as large as that, you will have to ask your current host for help on moving the file since they will have root access to the server. If you provide some details on what control panel you are using, maybe someone here (or myself) can provide you and your host with some commands that will move the site over to a new server.

Thanks ho247 for your quick response. The reseller control panel is WHM version 7. Is this what you wanted to know? Does it mean that which ever host I chose, my present guys could transfer the data accross? Does it take a long time to do? Regards Genesis

Since the data is 1.8GB, you would have to ask your host to see how much they will help you. They should be able to "package" the account and then give it to your new host who can then restore the account on the new server. Using the WHM transfer feature should timeout for such a large site, so he only way is to contact both companies and see if they will help you move the data over. You definitely need root access to the servers to restore the site, which the hosting company will have.

Hey, I think this would be a great thing for FXP! Most servers have HUGE lines, so 1.8GB wouldnt take so long from server to server. But in conclusion, use FXP.

Why not tar it up then just ssh to the new server and download it from one server to another. Chances are you'll get a few MB pers sec and it shouldn't take that long.

But then you need SSH silly!

Well I'm sure the host won't mind doing this for their client then
