Cloning a site on a cloud - anyone did that?

Hi! I am new to cloud hosting and have an account with Rackspace (from a reseller). I want to migrate my site (a Wordpress blog) to the cloud. I managed to create a WP blog. Now, when I tried to replicate my clone over it, it didn't work. I get an error saying "could not connect to database". How do you copy/migrate a blog to a cloud server? Any experience? Thanks!

When you migrate the site you'll very likely have to change the IP address of the database server in the configuration files when you're done. The error you posted seems to indicate that you have not done this yet. Best, Dave

Do you mean in the config.php file? I did change the database path: /** MySQL hostname */ define('DB_HOST', 'MY NEW PATH'); MY NEW PATH = is something like this "mysq230-205.pc2.ddw3.domain.com" I don't have any other information available, no IP address (in numbers). May I ask you which programm do you use to copy and clone WP sites? Is it all working fine with you? Thanks!

Cloud hosting usually has a mirroring policy which can do it for you.You can combine different cloud hosting services for different content types. We can call it cross-cloud hosting maybe.

Just to clarify, this sounds like a Rackspace CloudSites reseller. Be sure you've updated your database name and login information as well. Generally speaking, these are prefixed by an unique id when your reseller created the DB for you on the MySQL servers. As for migrating the database, http://www.rackspace.com/knowledge_c...MySQL_database Assuming you have a dump file from your previous hosting, you can reload it there.
