What's the problem of my Dedicated?

Posted by luizeba, 09-07-2009, 11:05 AM
Hello WHT members... I'm hosted at GalaxyVisions, and my site is loading really really slow on the last 5 days... I thought the problem was my RAM, because I'm using about 95% of the avaible ram on my old Dedicated....so I bought a new one, with 2GB RAM (my old was 1GB only)... But it's not the problem...because the site, just to START to load, delays more than 10 secs on peak hours... Them I thought "Well...the problem is my MBps Uplink...". I tought I had only 10MBps uplink....but my host said I have 100MBps...and damn! 100MBps is REALLY a lot... So, if I have 100Mbps port, I'm using less than 50% of my avaible RAM, less than 10% of my avaible CPU, why the hell my site is having more than 10 seconds of delay, on peak hours, to START to load the site? My site don't use too much bandwidth (less than 40GB/daily), but in peak hours a lot of people connect on the same time, and my site is an Arcade Website, so a lot of people loading big flash files... I need a 1GB Uplink? Or my actual hosting is crap?

It probably isn't anything to do with your server might be mysql running slow or your visitors just have slow internet. Even if your server has 100mbps doesn't mean your internet can pick that up most companies give you 3mbps.

You can keep throwing hardware at the problem or optimize your application as well as your MySQL and Apache. It's not something you should dabble into, as it seems you have zero experience, so perhaps enlist a server management company, or ask your current company if they can do it for you, or move to a managed host.

What Yajur said. In addition, go through your mysql process list during the slow down periods and keep and eye on locked tables. Your engine might be set to myISAM. In which case switch it to innodb. Regards

Hello mates... Sorry, I'm not a pro in this...I know a lot of things about SEO and these things, not about optimizing MySQL... 1- """check your maxclient in httpd.conf""" I checked my /etc...I don't have a httpd.conf file...how can I create it? Another thing...what could be a good 'maxclient' value to me? 2- """Your engine might be set to myISAM. In which case switch it to innodb.""" I have CPanel at my dedicated...how can I switch from myISAM to innodb? Thanks for the help, guys, for real! Soares

What operating system are you running? That will help you receive more direct answers. The more info you can give about your server, the better quality of answer you will get. The most probable place you will find your httpd.conf is /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf Look for your MaxClients and ServerLimit and post those values here.

I understand he's not a pro but he has to have at least some knowledge in managing. If he doesn't even know where to start then that would be a big problem, unless he hires a server admin or management plan from a third party management provider
