Installing c-Panel on openVZ VPS

Posted by cylence, 10-08-2008, 05:04 PM
Hello, We have recently setup our new VPS server and have installed hyperVM with openvz on there. I have setup the vps node and can succesfully make a ssh connection to it. However i have come to install c-Panel on it and i receive this error near the end of the installation: Installing compilers and ssl libraries...+....++............................+++....++............................++Could not install gcc, please check your package manager! at ./install line 483. I have rebuilt the VPS and have installed gcc and gclib manually. Then i try to install c-Panel again and i get the error: Your operating system's rpm update method (yum) was not able to locate the glibc package. This is an indication of an improper setup. You must correct this error before you can proceed. Would somebody be able to point us in the right direction or tell me what is happening and how i could possibly fix it please? Thanks...

give more information like your OS. I guess it will be better that you approach your provider as well.

I am running centOS 5 on the VPS. I am the provider other than getting the license from HyperVM I own the servers in our data centre but we have never gone into VPS's before guess its not a good start for us

Hi, It seems like your gcc installation is not proper. Run the command and post the results here. rpm -qa|grep gc

Cpanel installation sucks big time in Virtuozzo and the same problem is with OpenVZ too. Is there anyone who has successfully installed Cpanel in Virtuozzo or OpenVZ based VPSes?

Install yum properly which will fix all the issues.

I tried the solution given in http://www.happylife.sg/2008/02/29/yum-in-vps/ It does not work. I don't know where the problem lies.

I haven't had any problem installing cPanel on a VPS yet. I would recommend a reinstall of the VPS. The VPS is missing some packages and a reinstall should fix it. If it doesn't, you need to check the templates used for creating the VPS. Regards.

I would recommend to increase inodes to a large amount before installing cPanel. Once installed you can get those back to normal. As for yum, from outside the vps instance, into the vps root run: ~# vzyum install yum And get managed services for that VPS, for your customer own safety. Or sooner or later you will get in trouble. You can learn from what the technician on your managed services does and maybe try solo on the 3rd or 4th one. my 5 cents Q
