Upgrading php from 5.0.4 to 5.1.4

Is there a way to update php from 5.0.4 to 5.1.4 quickly without using yum or up2date? Can this be done with RPM? Or where can I find instructions on doing this?

You could update it via RPM if you find a suitable RPM.. but I would recommend just installing PHP from source instead. Usually the RPM's are out of date by a couple versions .. it also doesn't allow you to customize what you want compiled in.

If you install the new version of php will it install over the old version?

If you install it through yum, it will install over the old version.

5.1.4??? That's an insecure version pal. You want to upgrade to 5.2.6

Plus, if you're doing it through RPM, you'll have to make sure you update it to use the current MySQL libs on your system.
