Advice on VPS / Reseller

Posted by marsdend, 05-21-2012, 07:58 PM
Hi all! I am looking at staring a webhost. I have a good name and can provide a good quality service. I have been looking at The Prime Host for VPS and Reseller Hosting they seem the best so far. Anyone had experience with these? Their end user support also seems like a good addition to their reseller. Thanks, Dan

If you are starting out, it's best with a reseller to learn all the basics. However, with a VPS you get more control, and root-access. You get to choose what control panel you'd like, and you are able to install all the extra you want to offer your clients. I run my hosting-site on a VPS, and I love it. However, I recommend a Dedicated Server for anyone going big. Start small with a reseller, then move to a VPS then a Dedicated.

Start with reseller hosting first. VPS can give you headache if you are not familiar in managing it when it comes to security and optimization.

I agree to your last statement, and like I said: start with reseller, then move on.

I remember seeing a post on here recently about them so do a search. As others have mentioned, start with a reseller.

What are your criteria for determining what's "best"? Is it just the price, or something else?

Start off with Reseller Hosting if you have zero knowledge and managing an VPS would become an Headache for you. There are lot of Good hosts around offering some excellent support and Do check Reseller Hosting Offer Section.

You can get a pretty good dedicated if you want to sell vps really the only way to go when selling VPS web hosting.

Start your business with reseller hosting first. If you go with the vps you will have more power over your machine (server). The flaws of having a vps is that you have to install all needed software to have a web sever. some companies offer management at extra cost and you could also look into this.

Price, Features, Reliabity i took into account, the End User Support looks good for them also, thats why they are in the top of my list.

Well, I know a site that offers cheap and good VPS'. I have one from them myself. Their support is great aswell, and they offer all you need. Even offer a reseller for less than £2 /month, and 99% uptime.

Starting a hosting company isn't easy, however with the right reseller company you can create a good stable foundation. At this point, I wouldn't recommend looking at VPS's. With a VPS you have to think about managing security, patches and so much more. You'll need one fully managed if you're not familiar with server management, and even then, some experience yourself will be important as you'll have to choose a decent management company. Whereas with reseller hosting, you receive a lot of flexibility without the need to constantly worry about keeping your server up to date and patched since it will be the responsibility of the provider.

Starting with a business in VPS reseller hosting you have a better knowledge about that. And you have to give customer support too. Do check some of the companies given customer support.

Buying a vps makes sense only if you are well versed with managing server -- doing tasks like installing security patches, updating and installing softwares, taking care of hackers, spammers, etc. Simply having root access is useless if you are not able to harness the power of root user. For beginners, going with a reseller account with a good company is better and will give you less headaches.

OP, you should not consider a VPS yet. Stick to a managed reseller plan.

Not the case at all, just get a VPS that is managed, get a friend that knows how to manage a server or hire a third party company. The benefits of having root privs far out weighs the slight cost difference between a reseller account and a vps. Quality of service and growing will be much easier on a vps.

Just my opinion.

For you I would recommend going to a reseller or partner. You get a professional setup and it's marketed under your brand. Get some money under your belt then jump in if you can afford it.

Unless you know how to manage your VPS server which requires technical ability I would recomend to go with a reseller account. That will fee up your time to manage your billing and other software. When you grow large enough then get a dedicated server. I am not too keen on VPS as a choice as I don't see how it can benifit you. Either a VPS or a reseller account means you are on a shared server. But with VPS you have more layers of software to split the server to virtual servers. This never made much sense to me as to what the advantage is. What - you have a make believe server?
