Redirecting question

Posted by msherrard, 07-01-2010, 11:21 AM
I need some help with redirecting on my website. I setup a domain name with hosting. I'm redirecting my newly created domain over to an affiliate website that I own and I'm masking the URL so the user sees my new domain name in the browser address bar. I have this working properly now but what I also want to be able to do is add additional folders and content to my new domain and still access them without them being fowarded to my affiliate website. So if I create a subfolder called CustomerInfo and add a html file to that folder called index.html. When some enters (my new domain)/CustomerInfo in their broswer the index.html file will be displayed without being forwarded to my affiliate website. I've been playing with .htaccess to accomplish this but I haven't had any luck yet figuring it out. Is what I'm trying to accomplish even possible since I'm forwarding my domain? Any assistance here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Mike

Hi msherrard, From what I can gather, your trying to get 1 area of the website to redirect to a different page, and another to normally work on that server? You could always place the Affiliate website in a full-size Iframe, and then have a menu bar or something to the left or above the iframe? Cheers, Ben ExoHosting UK.

You can just set up redirection using cpanel. So anyone going to yourdomain.com/somethinghere will e forwarded to your affiliate site. No html or .htaccess needed.

I actually don't want yourdomain.com/somethinghere forwarded to my affiliate site. I only want the yourdomain.com forwarded to my affiliate. All other pages on my domain would be displayed in the browser. Is this even possible? To redirect the domain (yourdomain.com) but not subfolders (yourdomain.com/somefolder)? Hi again, now you put it like that, i'm not totally sure it is possible, without "cheating" by using an index.htm with an iframe or something in.. Good Luck, Ben. <> Last edited by bear; 10-16-2012 at 12:03 PM.

I actually got it working last night. I tried to post my solution but because I haven't posted enough times here I can't share it just yet. There's probably a better way of doing it but my solution works for me right now. Thanks for the replies! Mike Last edited by bear; 10-16-2012 at 12:03 PM.

You can just put a javascript redirect on the homepage if thats the only page you want forwarded?
