Anyone have any information on how to install mplayer on Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 4, and more specifically for .wmv files? And preferrably using up2date but will consider at all options!

Hi Did you tried a simple: yum -y install mplayer Is this for a YouTube-like website?

Yum is not installed. I do have up2date. It is not for a YouTube-like site. I think I have it installed now, but how can I test it?

You can do: updatedb then locate mplayer Or, you can also try whereis mplayer It will give you the installation path at least. If it gives no results, you should review your install.

This is what I get, so I am assuming it is installed. Anyway that I can functionally test it for .wmv files? [root@test ~]# whereis mplayer mplayer: /usr/local/bin/mplayer /usr/local/etc/mplayer /usr/local/lib/mplayer [root@test ~]# mplayer --version MPlayer 1.0rc1-3.4.6 (C) 2000-2006 MPlayer Team CPU: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU 5110 @ 1.60GHz (Family: 6, Model: 15, Stepping: 6) CPUflags: MMX: 1 MMX2: 1 3DNow: 0 3DNow2: 0 SSE: 1 SSE2: 1 Compiled for x86 CPU with extensions: MMX MMX2 SSE SSE2 Unknown option on the command line: --version Error parsing option on the command line: --version [root@test ~]#

You can install the script that you wanted to use with this player and see if is works. I would say that the installation is correct.
