Problem with SPF record (no spaces)

Hello, I'm trying to get up an SPF record on my domain because my emails haven't been reching Hotmail users and Hotmail recommended setting an SPF record. I'm just having a slight problem, I've entered everything in to the DNS settings in WHM but when I test them at DNSReport.com, I get the following (I've changed my ip and domain) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SPF lookup of sender droid@domain.net from IP 12.34.56.789: SPF string used: v=spf1amxip4:12.34.56.789mx:domain.net~all. Processing SPF string: v=spf1amxip4:12.34.56.789mx:domain.net~all. Error: No space in SPF string. Returning UNKNOWN. Result: PERMERROR -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As you can see, there are no spaces! I've entered it in to WHM with the spaces intact so am not sure why this is happening. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

You need the space :-) ( i believe ) change it to this: v=spf1 a mx ip4:123.45.678.90 ~all or v=spf1 a mx ip4:12.34.56.789 mx:domain.net ~all

assuming you have a single server, just use domain.com. IN TXT "v=spf1 a mx -all" dont use ~all for a final configuration http://www.zytrax.com/books/dns/ch9/spf.html this is good reading if your want a more advanced config

Is there a difference between that and "v=spf1 a mx ?all"

all is netural, its like you arent even using spf. The match will be netural. ~all is a soft fail. In my experience most servers just let the spam through. -all is fail. Last edited by jmcgon; 05-24-2007 at 09:38 AM.

Thanks, I'll try that. I have got spaces in the SPF record, its just that when I test it at dnsreport it strips out the spaces. I'll let you know how I get on Cheers

Thansk jmcgon, it seems to be working now with what you suggested, time to see if Hotmail will accept my emails now!
