Does anyone use apache 2.0 with php 5 and mySQL 5? Am i best sticking with apache 1.X?

We run Apache 2.2, PHP 5.2, MySQL 5.0, etc. No issues. Apache 2 is about seven years old. It's stable. Last edited by kerplunk; 05-17-2007 at 03:31 AM.

Are you using any control panel as this will have a bearing on the answer

No control panel here. Sorry if I was not of any help to you.

I will be running cPanel on this server, Would this cause problems?

If running cPanel you need to use the easyapache scripts and on the one for Apache 2 is buggy as hell. Just stick with 1.3 on that server

If it Plesk, watch out on versions.

Stay away from Apache 2 in this case. Not because of Apache 2, but because of cPanel's implementation. Any certain reason you are wanting to move away from Apache 1?

No, no reason. I was just wondering if its worth upgrading apache, while i am upgrading other services, that's all.

I would leave well alone. I did a test upgrade to Apache 2 on cPanel and took me 2-3 hours to put the server back together ( admitally not trying that hard as it was a test box)

CPanel's script for installing apache2 isn't as bad as one would think. I've implemented this on a number of servers myself, and while it's been a bit of problem, it's nothing worth complaining about, and once it's DONE, it's good to go, there are no problems with it

But its also still an EDGE release and not made for a production enviroment.... I'm with linux-tech... though there are issues its quite well implemented and once it hits RELEASE then it should be quite stable for use in any production env. We run Apache 1.3 with php5 as standard and php4-cgi which customers can use by adding a simple .htaccess handler, and MySQL 4.1. I see no reason to upgrade to 5.0 at this point since we're moving mysql off to seperate servers shortly and will offer 4.1 or 5.0. http://www.cpanel.net/products/cPane...inux/cpanel11/ Due to the massive amount of changes to the cPanel and WHM code base, cPanel will be releasing this upgrade in multiple stages. The first stages will contain the majority of the new features and code, including the new domain owner interface. This first stage is currently available in the CURRENT branch and can be downloaded by running /scripts/upcp on the CLI or 'Upgrade to Latest Version' in WHM. The later updates will be smaller and more focused, including such features as Apache 2.0.x and 2.2.x support. The following table represents when each stage of cPanel 11 will be released into our update branches (EDGE, CURRENT, RELEASE, STABLE). It is recommended to maintain your current upgrade branch to ensure a smooth transition to cPanel 11. Date* Stage 1 Stage 2 May 2, 2007 CURRENT May 18, 2007 EDGE** June 5, 2007 RELEASE June 12, 2007 CURRENT June 19, 2007 RELEASE June 26, 2007 STABLE
