Optimizing Dedicated Server

Posted by mealto, 05-24-2007, 01:17 PM
Are there some simple things that we can do or perhaps request our server management to do to optimize our server? Not sure where to start or what to ask so would like to learn some more before speaking with the server management company. Often times, you need to know the right questions to ask. Thanks in advance.

Well to be honest if you ask your server management to optimize your server you shouldn't have to tell them what to optimize. If theres an obvious problem your server management company should know what it is and should be able to correct it fairly quickly. Is there any specific reason you want your server optimized as such? IE is it slow? High load?

Thanks Scott. CPU load is not high and RAM is not using any Swap yet but felt that there must be something that can be optimized rather than use out of the box so to speak. Is that a fair statement? I was wondering exactly what you said. Will the server management company check processes and usage and make tweaks based on the server use itself? If so, maybe this customized approach is better than a general optimization protocol?

You would be correct in saying that you shold always optimize as you will get better performance than just the standard out of the box setups. A good server management company should design your settings based upon your server and your server only to get the best performance possible.
